Sanatan Dharma, isn't it an obsolete term? Well, not only its original name but its teachings are also fading in modern Bharat. You don't believe me? Ok, let me put my part of the observation.
In my early teenage, I used to chant a lot of mantras and warble Hanuman Chalisa daily. But someone told me if you don't pronounce these verses correctly especially that Mha-Mratunjay Mantra then god will punish and you may possibly die. Whao! are you serious? Yes, that is why we call Pandits for chanting only they can do it rightly. So, God will not punish me if I don't chant anything. "Maybe not," she says. Well, I wanted to live my life so all chanting stops that day.
What those words did to me is that they push me away from my own Dharma, my own spiritual practices and more importantly now I fear from my own God. God whom I considered being the savior of my life is now an angry powerful man who can destroy my world if I did something not as per his plan.
Later I shifted to more softer and calmer gods like Ganesha, Sai Baba, and Krishna. Because they seem to be less violent and less harming to me. Well, that's the best solution my 11-year-old mind could think of.
So did you see a business model here, a model based on fear? Fear of God, fear of losing all your income, fear of your life, fear of losing your relations all created and designed to benefit certain people in society. And they are making a lot of money out of it.
If you recall in the pre-digital media era we used to have a pic of well shaved, smiling photos of Shankar doing Sadhna in the Himalayas and giving blessings with one hand. But in digital and modern India, Shankar with 6-pack abs, 18-inch biceps and angry eyes is smoking weed and going viral all over the social media. And surprisingly no Sanatan Dharmi (sorry nowadays Hindus) is offending with that. We see Angry Hanumana photo that just went viral all over India and the automobile industry made a huge profit out of it.
So, is our god having some anger issues? Yes, they might be having an anger issue, whenever youth smoke weed on their name, when someone was beaten for not chanting Jai Shri Ram, when a killer is being glorified and made equivalent to Ram in a Ram Navmi event in Rajasthan, they are supposed to be angry.
But God knows anger is not the solution and he is aware of the Karma philosophy of Sanatan Dharma. The solution lies in the basics of our Dharma. Satvik life, Sadhna, Compassion which were the basics of our dharma are now considered to be a Sadhu thing. We teach our children to be competitive but not to be cooperative, so as a parent we need to grow up. Teach your children more about dharma, teach them more about the softer side of our dharma.
